Hi. 👋

I am JayVii, a data enthusiast with a passion for Free and Open Source Software. I care about social inclusion & privacy. This is my personal Fediverse server, powered by ktistec. I modified its appearance with my own adjustments.

I typically remove shared posts after ca. 3–6 months. I do keep most of my own posts (for now).

I post about a variety of topics, both in German and English, such as:

I also developed a few tiny & simple self-hostable tools to ease my life (and that of others), such as:

I really wish there was an e-mail client that was remotely as powerful, customizable and easy to use as #astroidmail (repo). I tried #aerc and other #notmuch clients too, but none I tried so far matched astroid. Unfortunately, it hasn't received meanigfullmaintainance for a while (although since last summer, there are indeed a bunch of smaller commits again).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

#HelixEditor & #Tmux with only two lines of config makes a better code editor for #rstats than any other editor or #R IDE I tried before. Helix replaced neovim for me completely

#LowTechMagazine is always a nice read and pokes me about a few interesting thoughts, e.g. in "Bedazzled by Energy Efficiency" not only about #EnergyEfficiency, but also about work, time and any other type of efficiencies... #blog

Been to the  #Dinosaur museum Altmühltal / Bavaria this week. I think it is safe to say that people can indeed learn a lot about animals, extinct or not, without putting living animals in cages. Little #govegan side note 😊

Been to #Drachenstich at Furth im Wald, Bavaria to see this monstrosity in action. Well worth it!

For all the hype around #Thunderbird 115, I find it excitingly unexciting. It doesn't look like an application from the earlier past decade anymore, it still has all the functionality power users would expect and does a lot of things so much better than before. More importantly it JustWorksâ„¢. There is no learning curve if you have ever used Thunderbird before.

I have dabbIed with many alternatives in the past (particularly #notmuch based, e.g. #astroid which I have used for over a year exclusively), but Thunderbird's #SuperNova update finally feels like the innovation that makes it stick for good (for me anyways...)

#Google's Web Environment Integrity #WEI proposal is detrimental to the #free web. It inshrines web #surveillance even further and gives authoritarian regimes the tools to suppress journalists, activists and any other person even easier.

Reading the #Julia documentation and style guidelines, sucks me into the same deep hole that I once fell into when learning about #rstats

Playing around with #goaccess for privacy preserving traffic #analytics. Wrote a tiny script that is run by a cron-job and a (for now) super simple PHP site that works as a menu for archived traffic states: https://traffic.jayvii.de/
