graphic showing Linux VS Windows

For many people, the #Linux vs #Windows vs #Mac debate is a privilege — it assumes you can choose. But working with the Computer Upcycle Project, I've seen the real choice is often Linux vs no computer at all.

~95% of donated computers are "too old" for Windows 11 or macOS. Linux installs on them anyway, adding 10+ years of life to machines #Microsoft and #Apple called trash.

This isn't Linux vs Windows. It's Linux vs e-waste.

“So what does the GNOME Foundation do, anyway?”

So much work is behind the scenes—and frankly, in the past the Foundation has not been as efficient as it could have been.

With the relaunched Friends of GNOME and now the Fellowship program, I hope it’s obvious what the role of the Foundation can and should be.

I’m super proud of the GNOME Foundation board for putting this together. And I am forever grateful to the Friends of GNOME who make this possible. ❤️

Big news! Today we’re launching the GNOME Fellowship: funded positions for contributors to work on the GNOME project’s long-term sustainability. 🎉

We are starting with one 12-month fellowship; applications are open through April 20.

OK this is a stupid question, but why have Linux projects (apparently) fallen over themselves to comply with an age-recording statute in a single US state (albeit a large one), when those projects have been failing for decades to respect national and even international law regarding disability?

Question to the #LinuxPhone/#PostmarketOS/#PinePhone community: I still have the OG Pinephone from 2020 in a drawer and was playing around with the idea of using it as a semi-#dumphone / less distraction riddled device for day to day usage.

How is the current state of Linux on a Phone and what about this particular device? The PmOS wiki page looks promising,, so does the Debian wiki (which was my main phone OS back then) but I am unsure how well this is maintained. IIRC, it became somewhat abandoned when the #PinePhonePro arrived.

FYI, if you are running the #Linux Version of #WorldOfGoo2 (#AppImage) under #Wayland, you need to set:

SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11

Oh yes, #WorldOfGoo2 has been released today and it's available DRM-free for Win/Mac/#Linux: https://worldofgoo2.com/

Tomorrow, it's time for some nostalgia #WorldOfGoo #Gaming

Pretty happy with my #sway setup now. #waybar and #sov give it a very clean, functional but pretty surface. #Linux #Debian #Wayland

Experimenting with #sway for a bit (https://src.jayvii.de/pub/dotfiles/file/sway/.config/sway/config.html). Feels a lot more mature (but obv less flashy) than #wayfire. And really snappy! If you have any tipps or suggestions, feel free to send them my way :) #Linux #wayland

@M0CUV to get back on topic: kudos for considering #FOSS software stacks. #Linux Mint is a great choice! Helix replaced neovim completely for me, but that probably comes down entirely to your workflow...

Playing with #Wayfire for the past few days brought back a lot of memories about distro-hopping during the past 11 years of using #Linux.

Although in the meantime I'm not playing with my system(s) so often anymore and pretty much settled on #Debian with the #GNOME desktop (both at work and at home), It is fun to tinker with a minimal compositor like Wayfire again. I'll keep it on my private laptop for a while :) #Wayland

Image description 1: A screenshot of a minimal wayfire desktop with a topbar showing some system information like cpu and memory usage, wifi connection, etc. using the dracula colour palette. A menu is open in the center of the desktop, showing a few installed applications.
Image description 2: Wayfire's virtual desktop overview showing 6 virtual desktops in 2 rows. On the first desktop in the upper left, one can see a browser window drafting this very post. On the fifth desktop in the lower center is a terminal window showing the cava music visualiser in pink on a black background, which is very similar to the desktops background image.
