Hi. 👋

I am JayVii, a data enthusiast with a passion for Free and Open Source Software. I care about social inclusion & privacy. This is my personal Fediverse server, powered by ktistec. I modified its appearance with my own adjustments.

I typically remove shared posts after ca. 3–6 months. I do keep most of my own posts (for now).

I post about a variety of topics, both in German and English, such as:

I also developed a few tiny & simple self-hostable tools to ease my life (and that of others), such as:

You can find out more about myself on my website or in my introduction post.

Finally another live concert tomorrow. And this year starts with a banger: Architects and Northlane. I've seen Architects half a dozen of times by now and it was more than worth it every single instance. Never seen Northlane before, but have been looking forward to it so long now. Needless to say I am super hyped

Had major trouble with sound-output on my work laptop yesterday and was troubleshooting for way too long. On Debian of all Distros...

Turns out a pipewire-update pushed to backports yesterday resolved it, but I am still not quite sure why it lost the output channel every other minute 🤔

Oh hey, #Fedora38 will be available with #sway as one of the default flavours? Maybe it's time again to dabble outside Debian

JayVii

wake me up, when #XFCE can do #wayland, will you?

Finally had some time to sort my #keepass database into neat little folders. Gotta love pre-christmas homeoffice. Time spent commuting now became time spent with fun or useful stuff!

The New Year's Eve dinner arrived ✌️🌱

Super happy that I took some time yesterday to scroll through #bandcamp to find this gem of an album from #Polaris 🤘

Who would have thought that encrypting your /boot would be such a mess with GRUB's detrimental decryption performance on every boot or waking up from hibernate...

Should have stuck with unencrypted /boot... #linux

I have a hard time finding spots in my schedule to read #books, but lots of time to listen to podcasts etc while commuting via public transport.

Thought that might also be a good occasion for #audiobooks, but would highly prefer #DRM free ones over, let's say audible. Any recommendations on where to buy (or "rent") those?

I am thinking bandcamp, but for audiobooks.

I'm quite happy with my current setup of self hosted services on my VPS, including the fediverse server #ktistec, the RSS aggregator #selfoss and a bunch of tiny self written services & scripts (+ Websites).

All of which are as simple and low footprint as possible to make them easily maintainable. E.g. websites are completely static content, created with #hugo.

Feels like small islands that are isolated from outside factors, yet let me interact with others out there. That's probably how the internet must have felt like pre Web 2.0, when many people still had their own blogs, rather than using centralized, monopolistic platforms.

I am thinking about co-hosting more complex software together with others (and sharing costs...) like invidious. So if you are interested, send me an e-mail (contact + PGP avail. on my website)
